Untapped Diversity
Data Report

At Untapped, we are on a mission to make the world more equitable by broadening access to transformative careers. In helping others hire more diverse teams, we have long stressed the importance of embracing a data-brave mindset, and that starts right here with our own team.

When we (Adam Gefkovicz and Tariq Meyers) assumed leadership over the company in October 2021, we understood that it was mission-critical that we continue to build a diverse workforce internally to ensure we live up to our brand promise externally. Our goal was to build a team and a culture that reflects what our customers aim to achieve in their own companies.

Becoming a Remote First company meant we were no longer constrained by geography in our hiring efforts and could expand our applicant pool to include untapped talent across the U.S. We also made a commitment early on that 50 percent of offers would go to individuals from underrepresented groups (URGs) and we have surpassed that goal for the past four quarters. We built our leadership team with intention, welcoming leaders of every background and positioning us to accelerate the adoption of our mission with a diverse team. Finally, we established an employee-run Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) committee to keep us accountable and continue to push forward our DEIB initiatives.

While we recognize that making our employee demographic data public is just one step in our DEIB journey, we feel strongly that what gets measured gets managed. This is why we are so excited to share our 2022 Untapped Diversity Data Report with the world.

We put our people first

I’m new to Untapped and can already say the people here are easily my favorite part. Everyone is so nice and friendly, and always willing to help… I got to talk to the CEO my first week, that never happens at big companies."

Sean Sullivan (he/him)
Sales

My favorite part about working at Untapped is that I feel heard. People believe in me and respect what I'm saying. I've been able to define what I do my whole time here. Plus, knowing we are building something that will help connect people to more opportunities has always been top of mind and a top priority for me."

Representation matters

up arrow illustration

The following report reflects the Untapped employee population as of June 1, 2022. The DEIB committee made a conscious decision not to use the standard EEOC-1 categories, as our employees found them too one dimensional and limiting. Instead, we invited our employees to self-identify with the categories that best reflect their many identities. We are dedicated to raising the bar on industry standards in workforce diversity, and believe this starts by expanding the ways in which our own employees identify.

Underrepresented Group (URG) — An employee who self-identifies as being part of a historically underrepresented community in tech, including: women, people with disabilities, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, veterans, African American / Black, Hispanic / LatinX, Indigenous Peoples / First Nations / Native American / Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian / Pacific Islander.

Untapped Values

Each organization has its own unique way of working. We base everything we do on our values, which guide our people philosophy and decision-making. This is how Untapped employees show up to work every day.

Be a student

We always have a growth mindset because we know that trusting, respecting and listening to others is essential to our individual and collective success. We approach situations with curiosity over judgment—we only fail when we stop learning and asking questions.

Slightly open door

Open doors

We are here to make sure there is always a door for everyone to walk through; whether that’s being gracious to each other or knocking down barriers for others—we are here to make space for those who need it.

Walk the walk

Follow-through is what transforms promises into progress. We do not play lip service to our mission or others—we execute.

Dream big

Regardless of role or team, we all think and act like founders by imagining the impossible.

We are committed

At Untapped, we are proud of the work we’ve done to date to build a diverse workforce and an inclusive culture, but we also recognize that DEIB work is a journey, not a destination, and there is always more work to be done.

We will regularly audit our total compensation philosophy and practices to ensure we uphold internal equity and help our employees understand the "how" and the "why" behind compensation decisions.

At Untapped, we recognize that we hold a unique responsibility to our employees, candidates, customers and partners when it comes to treating DEIB not just as a strategic priority, but a cultural centerpiece that is critical to our success as a business.

“Walk the Walk” is not only one of our core values, but it is also a framework we use collectively for making decisions about our product, our culture and the company we want to be. We are humbled and excited to continue this meaningful work.
