I’m passionate about building products that people love. And I care deeply that what I build makes the world a better, more equitable place. I am thrilled to start doing both here.
I believe hiring is broken.
Tech companies sorely lack diversity and, sadly, our hiring practices perpetuate this problem. Resumes are not true representations of who we are, and yet, the vast majority of candidates get screened out based on the resume alone. The remaining few more often belong to those in our society who’ve had the most opportunities available to them and are already well-represented in the workforce. It’s a vicious cycle for everyone else.
For years I have always been drawn to solving this problem.
I have been fascinated with how disconnected our educational system is from the professional world. Through my own educational experience, my volunteer work with high school students, and my recent years building products for recruiters and job seekers, I’ve seen the same problem over and over again. Regardless of what you learn, getting a job winds up being more about who you know and the name of your school/employer—all of which perpetuates the cycle of inequity.
But tides are rising for diversity in tech. More companies are setting DE&I goals. People leaders are prioritizing inclusion as a tenet of culture and recruiters are looking to close massive gaps in representation. These are important steps forward.
Technology can and should support this progress. Recruiters and job seekers are looking for more than just a resume. They are looking to bring equity to the workforce. They are looking to find the perfect fit. That’s where our platform comes in.
As I looked at ways to continue my work on these issues, I was lucky enough to meet the team. Their energy and passion (even through a completely remote interview process!) drew me in. The progress they had already made for recruiters and candidates alike was inspiring. And the shared mission was clear. I am humbled to be joining this team.
